Winthrop House, May 18-24, 2020

CONGRATULATIONS!

It's no exaggeration to say that you have completed the most unusual and unpredictable college semester of your life. As your resident dean it should be me providing you with sage advice and suggestions on how to make it through.....

But I have to be honest here: Right now, it's truly y'all who are showing us the way through. You are demonstrating to us what it means to adapt, to strategize, to lead, to help one another and what it means to show vulnerability. Thank you.

Seniors, I know many of you are understandably anxious about what the next few months will look like for you after graduation. I urge you to check out many of the offerings from the Office of Career Services and Harvard Alumni Association. HAA is putting together many events for Senior Week, Commencement and for connecting you with recent or not-so-recent alumni for employment opportunities.

HELP ME HELP YOU

SENIORS, our lovely Academic Coordinator has reached out to you requesting an audio recording of your name as you'd like it to be read for Commencement. Most of you have submitted but not all -- please do respond, this is the only aid I'll have for reading your names and this is a special moment for you and your loved ones (even and especially virtually)!

HOUSING

Housing and Residential Life is maintaining Monday, May 18 (that's TODAY) as the deadline to cancel your Fall 2020 housing.

If you are planning to take a leave of absence, study abroad, or move off-campus, please:

  • Visit the Residential Portal

  • Navigate to "Housing Forms"

  • Select "Housing Forms 2019-2020"

  • Select "Housing Cancellation"

There is uncertainty related to what the fall term will look like on campus. If your plans change as a result of College decisions for the fall, you will be able to request a waiver of the ordinary cancellation fee (a fee schedule can be found on the DSO website). For more information about late fees, please visit the Harvard College Handbook for Students.

Fall Interhouse Transfer - Round 2 Monday, May 18 is also the deadline to apply to transfer Houses for Fall 2020. If you would like to apply:

  • Visit the new Residential Portal (note: this is a different website than the link for the cancellation form)

  • Navigate to "Housing Forms"

  • Select "Fall Interhouse Transfer Round 2"

To be eligible to transfer, you must have completed at least one year in the House to which you were assigned. Transfer decisions are released in late July or early August, based on the amount of space available in each House.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

CAMHS has put together a virtual workshop just for Seniors: the idea is to give Seniors a space to share and process some of the loss of experiences and opportunities these past few months, while balancing this with the bigger picture of what’s happening in the world and things that have helped them adapt.

Very important and helpful read on SLEEP and how to do it in this stressful time!
