First, your resident deans do NOT know:

  • about Commencement.

  • about Finals.

  • about the summer.

  • about next month.

After that, see below if any other questions may be addressed and finally see the last section on self-care during high stress.

Here's what we DO know

If You Are On Financial Aid (From the Financial Aid Office):

If you need funds in order to fly home, we are able to advance funds to you from your student account.  Please let us know how much you need, and we will request a refund for you ASAP – you should receive the funds in about 2 days from the request. It will appear for a time that you “owe” to the bill.   As the financial aid office learns further from the University about any adjustments that may be made to term bill charges and/or financial aid, we will continue to work with you and your family regarding these unexpected costs.

If you have a ticket booked for the end of the year, you may be able to change that and you should be in touch directly with the airline to try to facilitate that.

If You Are An International Student (From the Harvard International Office):

Returning home to complete your studies, with the assumption that you will be returning in the Fall will not have a negative impact on your visa status. We do not see any impact to CPT – we will still process.  You get the credit in the Fall.  As long as you maintain your full-time load for this semester and can arrange the independent study CPT should remain an option.

On Shipping(From Building Management):

We recommend shipping home any belongings that you think you will need to access over the spring or summer.  Note: Boxes cannot weigh more than 70lbs.

Visit the UPS shipping website at https://www.ups.com/ship/guided/ to register your parcel, provide payment information and print out a shipping label.Affix the label to your box. (You can ship more than one box if you wish.)Starting tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon through Sunday afternoon, bring your boxes to one of the following locations to drop it off for shipping:

  • Adams, Eliot, Kirkland, Lowell, Winthrop – MAC Quad in front of Winthrop House.

  • Dunster, Leverett, Mather, Quincy – Corner of Grant and Dewolfe St., across from the Leverett Dining Hall.

  • Cabot, Currier, Pforzheimer – Quad Roadway, near Cabot House

  • Yard Dorms – Area in front of Lehman Hall between Grays and Matthews.

Or on West side of Thayer Hall. Please setup mail forwarding through HUMS.

Our service provider, Olympia Moving and Storage will transfer your parcel to UPS for shipping.

On Storage (From Building Management):

We recommend storage for those items that you will not need to access until the fall semester.

Please note that there will be NO ON-CAMPUS STORAGE available in any House or first-year dorm.  All items must be stored off-campus.

We have negotiated steep discounts relative to retail storage prices to minimize the financial impact on students.

Go to the Olympia Moving and Storage website to register and pay for your storage.

(A link to the website with information about proper packing, prices, and printable labels will be sent out by tomorrow, Wednesday March 11th, afternoon.)

Pack your boxes and affix the label.

Affix the label to any furniture or other items (bicycles, mini fridges, etc.) that you wish to store over the summer.

Olympia will retrieve the items and store them over the summer in their climate – controlled warehouse.

Olympia send you an inventory of your items for your records.Olympia will deliver your items to your fall term suite before you return to campus in fall.

*Any large items that you want to throw away or donate to Harvard Habitat for Humanity, please label prominently with the word “Trash” or “Donate” *
